About our organic honey

Our honey is sourced from hives in and around the same organic farming areas that produce our fruit, vegetables, herbs and spices, centred on Mkuranga District in Tanzania's Coastal Region, home to our Mitaranda Organic Project (2016) and Kisele Organic Project (2018). It reflects the surrounding vegetation and organic farming practices used across our operations, including the avoidance of synthetic fertilisers and chemical pesticides on the land nearby.

Once collected, the honey is filtered and lightly processed only as needed to remove wax and debris, without additives, so it keeps its natural flavour, colour and texture rather than being blended or standardised to a generic profile. Handling is kept to a minimum between hive and jar or drum, which is part of what gives the honey its natural character.

Honey is a natural product, and small differences in colour and flavour between harvests are normal for a minimally processed product taken directly from the hive rather than standardised in a factory. We manage this by working closely with the same farming areas season after season, so buyers can expect the same general character and quality even as individual batches vary slightly, in the way genuine natural honey does.

Quality and organic standards

Honey supplied by TanzPro Greens is produced within our wider organic operation, which holds the East African Organic Mark (Kilimohai) and follows Fair Trade principles as a member of the Tanzania Organic Agriculture Movement (TOAM). We avoid synthetic fertilisers and chemical pesticides across our farms and the surrounding land, which supports natural foraging conditions for bees rather than treating honey as a separate, unrelated product line.

Because honey absorbs the character of its environment, keeping the surrounding land free of chemical inputs matters as much for honey quality as it does for our fruit and vegetable crops. The same farmers and organic practices that produce our certified produce are part of what shapes the honey coming off the same land, so quality is not managed in isolation from the rest of our farming operation.

Packing formats: retail jars and bulk

We supply honey in retail-ready glass or food-grade jars for buyers who want a finished product ready for shelf, and in bulk drums or containers for buyers who repackage, blend or use honey as a food ingredient in their own manufacturing. Jar sizes and container formats are agreed with the buyer ahead of packing, so the product matches what your market and shelf space require.

Private label packing is available for retail buyers who want their own branding and labelling on the jar. Packaging can also be arranged using compostable or recyclable materials on request, consistent with the sustainable packaging approach we apply across our export range.

Export logistics and markets we supply

Honey is shelf-stable and does not require cold-chain shipping, which makes it straightforward to export by air or sea, unlike our fresh fruit and vegetables. Orders are packed to specification and dispatched from Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam, or by sea for larger bulk shipments where transit cost matters more than speed.

We currently export to five markets — Seychelles, Dubai/UAE, Oman, Russia, and East Africa/local supply — alongside our fresh produce and other value-added products, so honey orders can be combined with other TanzPro items in the same shipment where useful for the buyer.
