Avocado Export from Tanzania

TanzPro Greens grows both Hass and local avocado varieties on organic farms in Mkuranga District, Tanzania, where coastal soils and steady rainfall suit the crop well. Every fruit is picked at the correct stage of maturity, moved through a cold chain built for export, and packed to travel. For buyers who need dependable avocado supply without compromising on organic practice, that combination is the whole point.

Why Buyers Choose TanzPro Avocado

  • Hass and local varieties available
  • Hand-picked at correct maturity
  • Organic, GMO-free growing practices
  • Cold-chain handled from packhouse to port
  • Air and sea freight to 5 export markets

Hass and Local Varieties, Grown in Coastal Tanzania

Our orchards sit in Mkuranga District, part of Tanzania's Coastal Region, alongside our Mitaranda Organic Project (2016) and Kisele Organic Project (2018). The region's clean soils and consistent rainfall give avocado trees the stable growing conditions they need over the years it takes an orchard to mature.

We grow both Hass, the variety most familiar to international retail and food-service buyers, and local avocado varieties, which give us a wider harvest window and a broader supply base to draw on.

Organic Growing and Careful, Maturity-Based Harvest

Avocado is grown under the same organic principles as everything else on our farms: no synthetic fertilisers, no chemical pesticides, no GMOs. Soil fertility is built through composting, green manure and crop rotation, and pests are managed biologically rather than chemically.

Harvest timing is judged fruit by fruit rather than by calendar date, since avocado picked too early never ripens properly and fruit picked too late will not travel well. Hand-harvesting lets our team select at the correct stage of maturity for each tree, and our more than 50 contracted farmers — around 70% of them rural women trained in organic methods — are central to getting that judgement right.

Count and Size Grading

After harvest, fruit is sorted and graded by size and count per carton, and inspected for skin condition and firmness. Only fruit that meets export standard moves forward to packing; anything that doesn't is diverted to local sale rather than shipped.

Grading to a consistent count matters most to buyers reselling into retail, where uniform sizing per box is part of what a customer expects on the shelf.

Cold-Chain Handling and Export Logistics

Avocado is sensitive to temperature and rough handling, so graded fruit is pre-cooled at the packhouse before it's packed into food-grade export cartons. This slows ripening and gives the fruit a stable window in which to travel.

From there, we dispatch by air through Julius Nyerere International Airport for time-sensitive orders, or by sea for larger volumes where a longer transit window works for the buyer. Produce harvested at sunrise and moved by air can reach Gulf kitchens within 24 to 48 hours.

Markets We Serve and Why Buyers Choose TanzPro

TanzPro Greens exports to Seychelles, Dubai and the UAE, Oman, and Russia, in addition to East African and local supply. We've built this network since 2014, so our cold chain, packhouse and paperwork are set up for repeat orders rather than one-off deals.

Our farms operate on the East African Organic Mark (Kilimohai) standard, we're a member of TOAM, and we follow Fair Trade principles across our farmer network. Every tonne exported also funds 50 indigenous trees planted under our sustainability programme, tying export volume directly back to the land it came from.

Starting an Order: From Trial Shipment to Standing Volume

New buyers typically begin with a trial shipment to check fruit condition, ripening behaviour and packaging on arrival. Once that's confirmed, we set up a standing supply schedule matched to your ordering cycle.

Reach out with your destination, target volume and preferred variety, and we'll walk you through current harvest windows and freight options.

Frequently asked questions

Do you supply Hass avocado, local varieties, or both?
We grow both. Hass suits buyers who need a variety familiar to international retail and food service, while our local varieties broaden the harvest window and supply base. Tell us your preference and we'll confirm current availability.
How do you make sure avocado is harvested at the right maturity?
Fruit is hand-harvested and assessed individually rather than picked to a calendar date, since avocado only ripens properly if it's cut at the correct stage. Our contracted farmers are trained specifically in judging this.
What is the minimum order quantity for avocado export?
We handle both trial shipments and standing volume orders, so minimums depend on destination and packaging format. Contact us with your target volume and we'll confirm what's achievable.
Is TanzPro avocado organic certified?
Our avocado is grown without synthetic fertilisers, chemical pesticides or GMOs, under the East African Organic Mark (Kilimohai) and TOAM membership, following Fair Trade principles. We do not hold USDA or EU organic certification.
How is avocado shipped, and how long does transit take?
We ship by air through Julius Nyerere International Airport for time-sensitive orders, or by sea for larger volumes. Air-freighted fruit picked at sunrise can reach Gulf destinations within 24 to 48 hours.
Is avocado available year-round?
Growing both Hass and local varieties extends our overall harvest window across the season. Contact our team for current availability against your planned shipping date.
