Pineapple Export from Tanzania
Tanzania's coastal climate around Mkuranga District grows pineapple with a natural sweetness and juiciness that export buyers notice immediately. TanzPro Greens hand-harvests, grades and packs fruit for the journey ahead, whether that's a two-hour drive to a regional market or an air freight run to the Gulf. The result is pineapple that reaches the buyer's door still firm, fragrant and ready to sell.

Grown in Tanzania's Coastal Growing Belt
TanzPro Greens farms in Mkuranga District, in Tanzania's Coastal Region, where warm temperatures, steady rainfall and clean, untainted soils give pineapple the growing conditions it needs to develop full sweetness and colour. Our two sister projects, Mitaranda Organic Project (established 2016) and Kisele Organic Project (established 2018), sit within this same coastal belt and have built up more than a decade of combined experience with the crop.
This is not a single large plantation but a network of contracted smallholder plots, managed to a common organic standard and harvested against confirmed export orders rather than guesswork.
Organic Cultivation, From Seedling to Harvest
Every plot supplying our pineapple programme is farmed without synthetic fertilisers or chemical pesticides. Farmers rely on composting, green manure and crop rotation to keep soils healthy, and on bio-pesticides and biological pest control to manage pressure from insects and disease.
Our farmer network is more than 50 contracted growers strong, and roughly 70% of that workforce is rural women, trained in organic cultivation methods and supplied with certified seed stock. In return, they get a guaranteed market for what they grow — an arrangement that keeps quality consistent season after season.
Harvest Timing: Balancing Sweetness and Travel Distance
Pineapple doesn't ripen further once cut, so harvest timing is one of the most important decisions we make. Fruit destined for a short regional run is picked closer to full ripeness, while fruit travelling further by air is picked slightly earlier so it arrives at the right eating stage rather than overripe.
Hand-harvesting lets our teams select fruit individually rather than stripping a field all at once, and every batch is sorted and graded within hours of cutting, before it ever reaches the packhouse.
- Hand-selected, not mechanically stripped
- Ripeness matched to destination and transit time
- Sorted and graded within hours of harvest
Grading and Quality Standards
Once at the packhouse, fruit is graded by size, crown condition and skin uniformity, and anything that doesn't meet export standard is set aside for local sale rather than shipped. This keeps every carton consistent, which matters to buyers who are reselling into retail or food service and need fruit that performs the same way, order after order.
Grading also flags any fruit with bruising or damage from handling, so problems are caught before packing rather than after arrival.
Packing and Export Logistics
Graded fruit is pre-cooled at the packhouse to slow ripening before it's packed into food-grade export cartons sized for the buyer's market and mode of transport. From there, shipments move out through Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam for air freight, or by sea for larger volumes or destinations where transit time is less critical.
Fruit harvested at sunrise and routed by air can reach Gulf or Seychelles kitchens within 24 to 48 hours — a turnaround that keeps sweetness and texture close to what you'd get buying at the farm gate.
Markets We Serve and Why Buyers Choose TanzPro
TanzPro Greens exports to Seychelles, Dubai and the wider UAE, Oman, and Russia, alongside steady supply to East African and local buyers. We've been doing this since 2014, which means our packhouse, our farmer network and our export paperwork are all built around routine, not one-off shipments.
Buyers work with us because the fruit is grown organically, without GMOs, on Fair Trade principles, and because we operate on the East African Organic Mark (Kilimohai) standard as a member of the Tanzania Organic Agriculture Movement (TOAM). Every tonne we export also funds our tree-planting programme, at 50 indigenous trees per tonne — a small but real link back to the land the fruit came from.
Starting an Order: From Trial Shipment to Standing Volume
Most new buyers start with a trial shipment sized to test quality, packaging and transit performance on their specific route. Once that's proven out, we move to a standing order schedule that matches your restocking rhythm, whether that's weekly, biweekly or seasonal.
Get in touch with our team with your destination, preferred volume and packaging format, and we'll confirm harvest windows, lead times and freight options for your route.
